Let it go

Words in the Sand

Write a worry in the sand with your finger, or type it, and let the waves smooth it away.

What is Words in the Sand?

Write a worry in the sand with your finger, or type it, and let the waves smooth it away. It is one of 23 small, calm places in Pocket Meadow, a relaxation app for iPhone and iPad.

What it looks and feels like

A turquoise sea rolls onto a wide, sunny beach. Your words sink into the wet sand like real handwriting, with tiny shadows in each letter. Small waves wash over them and soften the edges a little more each time. Shells lie scattered around, a small red crab wanders past and a starfish rests nearby. When the big wave comes, the beach is left smooth and shining again.

Why it can help you slow down

There is something soothing about the sea: waves keep coming in and going out, and the sand is smooth again every time. Writing in the sand turns that rhythm into a small letting-go ritual.

Small waves soften your words little by little; a big wave clears the beach. It is a gentle reminder that feelings come and go, like the tide.

How to use Words in the Sand

  1. Open Words in the Sand. The sea meets a wide, sunny beach.
  2. Draw in the sand with your finger, or type in the box and press it into the sand. You can add a photo too.
  3. Small waves will gently fade your words over a few passes.
  4. When you are ready, tap "Let the tide take it" and a big wave washes everything away.
  5. Write another, or just watch the waves.

When to use it

  • When you want a soft, slow way to let something go
  • On a busy day, as a two-minute beach break
  • When drawing feels easier than writing
  • Before bed, with the sound of the sea

Tips for a calmer moment

  • Draw a shape instead of words: a heart, a circle, a spiral.
  • Let the small waves do the work before the big one.
  • Turn on sound for the waves.
  • Keep an eye out for the little crab and the starfish.

Try it without the app

If you live near the sea, write a word in wet sand near the waterline and watch the waves erase it. At home, you can write with a finger in a tray of sand or salt and smooth it flat with your hand.

Questions

Are my drawings saved?

No. The sea washes them away, and nothing is stored.

Can I add a photo?

Yes. Tap the camera and your photo is pressed into the sand like a print.
