What is Pinwheel?
Blow at your phone and a colourful pinwheel spins. The longer and steadier your breath, the further it goes. It is one of 23 small, calm places in Pocket Meadow, a relaxation app for iPhone and iPad.
What it looks and feels like
A bright, rainbow-coloured pinwheel stands on a wooden stick under a clear blue sky. As your breath reaches the microphone, it starts to turn, then spins faster as your breath continues. A small panel shows your breath strength and how long you kept it spinning, so you can try a longer, steadier breath next time.
Why it can help you slow down
A pinwheel is one of the simplest breathing toys there is, and many people use one to practise long, steady out-breaths. Pocket Meadow's Pinwheel brings that to your phone.
It listens for a real breath, not talking or noise, and shows you how strong and steady your breath is, so you can practise slowing it down.
How to use Pinwheel
- Open Pinwheel.
- Breathe out toward the microphone (bottom of an iPhone, top of an iPad).
- Watch the pinwheel spin.
- Try long, steady breaths to keep it turning.
- Watch the breath bar to see how steady you are.
When to use it
- As a fun, playful breathing break
- With children, to practise slow out-breaths
- When you feel tense and need to reset
- Before sleep
Tips for a calmer moment
- Try to keep it spinning with one long, slow breath.
- Breathe in through your nose first.
- Hold the round button if you cannot use the microphone.
- Nothing is recorded. It only reacts to your breath.
Try it without the app
Use a real paper pinwheel or a dandelion clock. Breathe in, then blow out slowly and steadily to keep it turning as long as you can.
Good to know
Pinwheel is part of Pocket Meadow Plus, a one-time purchase that unlocks all 23 calm places, with no subscription. It belongs to the Breathe group. You can change how fast every place moves with the pace button on the home screen (slow, normal or lively), and turn sounds and gentle vibration on or off. Pocket Meadow has no ads and no account, and collects no data: what you write, draw or photograph stays on your iPhone or iPad.
